A container that sits entirely on your own property — driveway, side yard, gravel pad — needs no permit anywhere in our service area, and that covers the large majority of residential drop-offs we do. Permitting only enters the picture when the box has to sit in the right-of-way. Inside Tallahassee city limits, that’s handled through the City’s own Traffic Engineering Section; no dumpster-specific fee is published anywhere we could confirm, so we always tell customers to call and confirm current requirements before delivery day. What Can — and Can’t — Go In

Stat. § 403.7192(3)(b) — bars nickel-cadmium and small sealed lead-acid rechargeable batteries, or anything containing them, from ordinary trash disposal for every resident, business, and institution in the state; those need to go to a certified recycler or a permitted facility instead, such as the Leon County Hazardous Waste Center on Apalachee Parkway, which takes batteries and electronics free. Waste tires never go in the box either — the county’s Solid Waste Management Facility takes those separately. Asbestos, paint that hasn’t fully dried, propane tanks, and anything with mercury never go in any container, under any circumstance. Protecting Your Driveway

A loaded 20 or 30 yard container carries real weight, and it can leave marks on pavers or press into softer asphalt.
